Emergency of conflicts . U.S immigration from Mexico to the United States has raised concerns among citizens about border protection. Several of these citizens are forming private independent groups referred to as the “Minuteman Project.” Many of the citizen patrols are armed but have no legal authority to detain individuals crossing international boundaries into or out of the United States. Question: If and when conflicts emerge, will the emergence of conflict lead to a new civil rights era in the United States?

The U.S – Mexico border has never been a peaceful place. A place has been accustomed to
violence and prone to conflict throughout history. A boundary is intangible to Americans.
However, the Mexicans regard the place as a constant reminder of their plight. While border
operations are meant to ensure instances of unlawful immigration, threats against national
security and limit transnational criminal activities, the current border operations have over
extended their strategies. Not only have they deterred immigration, but also led to the horrific
deaths of the immigrant population consisting of women, men and their children. Operations
such as Safeguard and Hold the Line have resulted into dangerous tactics of people crossing the
border causing unavoidable deaths.

Emergency of conflicts

In addition to putting the lives of these migrants at risk, these operations have failed to prohibit
the undocumented flow of immigrants into the United States. They have further increased the
rates of smuggling, heightened violence and tension at the border, fostering the violations of both
civil and human rights. However, as a core principle, it is important that public policies protect
life. Thus, there is the need for immigration reforms and regulation of operations at the border to
reverse the effects on civil and human rights violation.
