The Problem
A generational change can occur in a workplace where about-to-retire
personnel are faced with a new group of younger people who are more
technologically advanced (in computer-related capabilities). This new,
younger, more technologically advanced people are projected to be a part
of this office for the long term. Early retirement, given the lack of
replacement personnel, is not an answer – widespread leave-taking of the
about-to-retire people would cripple the whole enterprise.

Knowing the culture of your own workplace now or in your recent memory,
research one aspect of this problem that you would present to
management. From your research and your experience, articulate the
workplace cultural problem that could arise in your workplace on this
generational/technological scenario, present the “best practice”
solutions identified in your research, and provide an assessment why
those best practices are appropriate the particular workplace.

2. What does the research say are the specific aspects of this problem
that management needs to identify and address?
3. Given the particular workplace environment, which aspect of the
problem is most critical to your workplace?

that particular aspect of the problem?

Just a brief description of what I do: I work in healthcare,
specifically home care.
Care Coordinator
Coordinate case load for office work hours and on-call rotations.
Communicate with Coordinating Manager and inter-office staff to
determine staffing needs for consistency in client care. Maximize client
requested hours by actively scheduling available field staff. Verify
caregiver timesheets and obtains management approval for staff overtime,
rewards, and motivators for field staff. Accurately complete
documentation in computer system and maintain strict client confidence.
Support Accounting Department with payroll and billing processes.
Consistently promote teamwork and high-morale working environment. Serve
as acting Coordinating Manager during periods of absence.
